Neil Whittred

Neil started out as an apprentice and qualified as an advanced Carpenter/Joiner with a full indentured apprenticeship. Neil has worked in the construction industry for 28 years in total mainly in supervision. His other qualifications include Diplomas in Project management, Management and civil construction management. He has a wide range of experience working in residential, commercial, high-rise and civil construction for top tier companies such as Lend Lease and mid -tier such as Sunland, Golding and FK Gardner.

Neil and his family have been living on the Gold Coast for 9 years, they love the outdoor lifestyle, great climate and friendly people.

Karin Evans

Book Keeper / Office Manager

Karin Evans

Karin has been working in the building industry for the past 25 years. Before moving to Australia in 1998, she and her husband ran a business in the UK manufacturing timber structures such as sheds, garages, carports, stables etc. Since moving to Australia, Karin has worked for a variety of businesses in her capacity as a contract Book Keeper (primarily manufacturing and building companies), focusing on accuracy and compliance.

Karin manages all accounts, administration and assists with the initial contact with clients for Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central.


I enjoy watching the new trends come along in the building industry and seeing the transformation of client’s homes. And, of course, I also enjoy working with the many characters of the building industry!

Kendon Mullett

Kendon Mullett

Kendon is a Qualified Carpenter who has successfully completed his Apprenticeship Excelling at his craft.  He has an extensive knowledge of the building industry and an eye for detail.  He has a great work ethic and experience in both domestic and commercial projects including architectural and heritage work.

Kendon and his family moved to the Gold Coast 2 years ago from Melbourne and have never looked back! They love the climate and the beachside lifestyle.

Dylan Mayor


Dylan Mayor

Dylan is a qualified carpenter who completed his training in coastal New Zealand. He started working for a friend’s brother at the tender age of 17 which lead to an apprenticeship. He has covered all aspects of carpentry from the ground up including new homes, renovations, decks, pergolas and architecturally designed projects. As time went on the projects grew along with his knowledge of the industry. Dylan strives to achieve the best results possible for both the client and the employer by being time efficient and keeping his work to a high standard.
Recently Dylan and his partner decided to move to the Gold Coast of Australia with his love for the ocean and warm weather the Gold Coast seemed a suited fit. Dylan is a surfing and fishing enthusiast and can’t wait to explore what Australia has to offer.

Kevin Breen


Kevin Breen

Kevin is a qualified carpenter with over 17 years’ experience. Throughout his career he has worked in all aspects of carpentry on projects such as renovations, extensions and new builds. He also has experience as a supervisor and has started and run various businesses.
Kevin moved to the Gold Coast in 2017, in his spare time he enjoys surfing, riding dirt bikes, racing lawnmowers, wake boarding, skiing and playing tennis. In a past life he was a professional jockey in Sydney and professional bull rider!

Kevin’s motto in life is ‘live life to the fullest as you only have one short one’.

Madison (Maddy) Thomas

Trade Assistant Madison Thomas

Maddy has a total of three years’ experience in the building industry. His first building experience came in the form of working for his dad’s building company during a gap year after finishing school. During this time he was thrown in the deep end- with his dad ensuring he learnt valuable building stills on top of his general labouring duties. Since then, Maddy has been involved in a range of construction related roles including installing timber floors and solar systems.

His role within the Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central team requires him to take on both building and labouring duties under the guidance of the qualified team members- assisting them where ever possible and ensuring the construction process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Griffin Kirwan

Apprentice Carpentergriffin

While at school, Griffin started his carpentry apprenticeship with our team. He graduated from school in 2018 with a Certificate II in Engineering and multiple awards including: Excellence in Industrial Design, Marymount College Apprentice/Trainee of the Year and the John Boyes Memorial Award.
Griffins role as an apprentice involves being out on the job site and working hard to make sure the site is always clean and tidy so that all the other trades can work efficiently and are in a safe environment. He also assists the Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central onsite team and other trades, learning important skills along the way.

Will Whittred

Apprentice Carpenter Will Whittred

Will has just started his school based apprenticeship with Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central. His previous experience includes working for 1.5 years in the fast food industry while at school and working as a labourer on jobsites during school holidays.
He is eager to learn as much as possible about carpentry and building from our tradesmen. As an apprentice carpenter with Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central, his role involves assisting the qualified carpenters on site with any carpentry and building work.
